You are in control. Learn exactly what data we collect, how we use it, and how to manage or delete your account at any time.

Data we collect

We only collect what we need to provide and improve your learning experience.

Account information
What: Name (or display name), email address, hashed password.
Why: To create and secure your account.
Learning profile
What: Languages selected, learning goals, skill level, and onboarding preferences.
Why: To personalise your curriculum and lesson recommendations.
Learning activity
What: Lessons completed, quiz scores, streaks, XP earned, gems, hearts, time spent learning.
Why: To track your progress and power gamification.
Device & technical data
What: Device model, OS, app version, push notification token, approximate IP-based region.
Why: To deliver the app correctly and send lesson reminders if enabled.
Payment data
What: Subscription status and an anonymised transaction reference. Card details are never stored by us.
Why: To manage your subscription. Payments are handled by Apple, Google, or our PCI-compliant processor.
Usage analytics & diagnostics
What: Feature interactions, crash reports, and session durations.
Why: To find bugs, improve stability, and guide product decisions.
Voice (optional)
What: Audio captured during speaking exercises.
Why: Processed transiently to score pronunciation. Not retained unless you save it.

How we use your data

Your data is used exclusively to operate and improve Lingoafrika. We do not sell your personal information and we do not serve third-party advertisements inside the app.

Personalised learning
Tailor your lesson path, difficulty, and content based on your goals and history.
Progress tracking
Display your streak, XP, achievements, and improvement over time.
App functionality
Authenticate sessions, sync data across devices, process subscriptions.
Service notifications
Send streak reminders, lesson updates, and important account alerts.
Security & fraud prevention
Detect suspicious activity and protect your account.
Product improvement
Analyse aggregated, anonymised usage patterns to build better features.
Data sharing

We only share your data with trusted processors (hosting, analytics, payments, push notifications) who are contractually bound to protect it. We may disclose data when required by law. No other sharing occurs without your explicit consent.

Export your data

You have the right to receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you in a portable, machine-readable format.

How to request a data export

1Open the Lingoafrika app on your device.
2Go to Settings → Account → Privacy.
3Tap "Export My Data".
4Confirm your identity when prompted.
5You will receive a download link by email within 48 hours.

Alternatively, email privacy@lingoafrika.com with the subject "Data Export Request" and include the email address on your account. We respond within 30 days.

Delete your account

This action is permanent

Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, learning history, streaks, earned gems, achievements, and all other associated data. This cannot be undone.

What gets deleted

  • Your account profile (name, email, photo)
  • All learning progress, XP, streaks, and achievements
  • Gems, hearts, and any in-app currency balances
  • Lesson history and quiz results
  • Saved preferences and settings
  • Any community posts or content you have created
  • Voice recordings you have saved

What we may retain (limited)

Encrypted backups are overwritten within 90 days. Financial transaction records may be retained for up to 7 years to meet tax and accounting laws. Anonymised, aggregated analytics that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely.

Delete in the app

Open the Lingoafrika app
Make sure you are signed in to the account you want to delete.

Go to Settings
Tap your profile picture, then "Settings".

Select "Account"
Scroll down to the Account section.

Tap "Delete Account"
Found at the bottom of the Account page.

Confirm your decision
Enter your password and confirm. Deletion begins immediately.

Request deletion by email

If you cannot access the app, email us from the address on your account. We process verified requests within 5 business days; all personal data is removed within 30 days, with encrypted backups overwritten inside 90 days.
